      Project Summary

      • Where & When: Qatar, 2019
      • User: Qatar Tractors Company (QTC) – an authorised dealer for Liebherr in Qatar and a key entity within the Taleb Group.
      • Project: Infrastructure – Stormwater Drainage Work. Cut trenches ranging from 1,200 mm to 2,100 mm wide, with depths of up to 8.5 meters
      • Ground Condition: Dense and fractured limestone with strengths exceeding 80 MPa.
      • Solution & Result: KDC45 mounted on a Liebherr 30-ton excavator, 70-90 m³ per 10-hour shift.

      About Customer

Qatar Tractors Company (QTC), part of the Taleb Group and authorised Liebherr dealer, has been a key player in Qatar’s heavy-duty equipment market since 1974. Operating from a 48,000 sqm industrial facility, QTC offers equipment sales, rentals, spare parts, and after-sales services.

Why QTC Chose Auger Torque Drum Cutters

In 2019, QTC sought to expand its rental fleet to meet growing demand for specialised equipment in infrastructure projects, particularly for stormwater drainage work in Qatar. QTC’s Plant Hire department had an increasing need for powerful, reliable drum cutters capable of handling demanding trenching and excavation work.

After discussions with Auger Torque, QTC decided to purchase two units of Kinshofer KDC 20 drum cutters. The KDC 20, a smaller yet robust drum cutter, was capable of creating trenches with a width of 1,200 mm at a depth of 8.5 meters. Initial tests revealed an impressive productivity rate of 25 m³ per 10-hour shift, which translated to about 2.5 meters of trenching per day. The effectiveness of the KDCs was attributed to its advanced gear reduction ratios, allowing for increased torque without requiring larger, high-power motors. This feature allowed QTC to use smaller, more cost-effective parent machines to achieve the desired output, resulting in lower operational costs and enhanced productivity.

QTC selected the KDC45 model as the optimal solution due to its capability to cut trenches ranging from 1,200 mm to 2,100 mm wide, with depths of up to 8.5 meters in challenging ground conditions, including dense and fractured limestone with strengths exceeding 80 MPa. The KDC45, mounted on a Liebherr R934C excavator, demonstrated outstanding productivity, achieving 70-90 m³ per 10-hour shift.

The KDCs enabled QTC to achieve remarkable productivity and operational cost savings. Auger Torque’s dedicated support throughout the purchasing and implementation phases ensured a smooth transition, further enhancing QTC’s service offerings in the Qatari market.
